Capacitive sensor with low soil invasiveness, high environmental resistance due to resin-sealed housing.

- Two probes are prepared for measuring soil volumetric water content (VWC): the 2-electrode HD3910.1 and the 3-electrode HD3910.2. - Based on the principle of capacitance measurement, it allows for rapid and minimally invasive measurements in agricultural land. - The 3-electrode probe HD3910.2 is particularly suitable for measurements in small sample volumes (such as potted plants). - This probe is factory calibrated, and no additional calibration by the end user is required. - The circuit board is protected by a plastic housing and sealed with epoxy resin, enabling reliable measurements even under harsh environmental conditions. - The RS485 Modbus-RTU output and SDI-12 output versions can be connected to data loggers with respective digital inputs from other manufacturers. - The analog output version is equipped with two voltage outputs of 0.5–3V, 0–2.5V, 0–5V, or 0–10V.

The small sensors referred to as traditional TDR methods actually employed simplified measurement techniques, but the M2980CM-426SHE measures true dielectric constant using a groundbreaking TDR method that is currently patent pending. In fact, waveform data can be obtained from this compact sensor. The M2980CM-426SHE is a standard model tailored for low power consumption and is compatible with many soil types. The M2980CM-426SNE has higher power consumption but is suitable for high-salinity soils. The M2980CM-421SWE is a model with a rod length of 10 cm, designed for spaces with restrictions, such as rock wool or cultivation pots. It can be directly connected to a data logger and, like TDT soil moisture sensors, is maintenance-free, allowing for long-term continuous observation. It can measure not only soil moisture (volumetric water content) but also conductivity (EC), temperature, and dielectric constant in the soil.
